Unveiling Japan's Hidden Treasures to the World

Who We Are

"Gems of Japan" is a project dedicated to sharing Japan's hidden treasures with the global audience. The initiative was born from a collaboration between "Gorime," a seasoned blogger known for coverage of technology news and product reviews, and the creator of "Pakutaso," a free stock photo website that captures contemporary Japan.

The project is affectionately nicknamed "GJ," which carries a clever dual meaning. First, it stands for "Good Job," reflecting our commitment to excellence. Second, it serves as a subtle nod to the superior quality associated with products Made in Japan. Through this thoughtful abbreviation, we aim to highlight both the exceptional quality of Japanese products and services while effectively conveying the depth and allure of Japanese culture.

The Members

gori

Gori

Having spent his early childhood in the United States, Gori is known for his high-energy personality and animated reactions - so much so that his American teachers used to say he "acted more American than Americans." He achieved the highest level of the EIKEN English proficiency test (Grade 1) during high school. While he jokes that his English might have peaked in his high school years, he maintains regular conversations with his children's English teachers, who regard his English abilities as comparable to native speakers. Due to his outgoing personality and genuinely kind nature - which might surprise some given his appearance - his former kindergarten teacher, who initially wanted to become friends with him, now teaches English to his children.

Through his blog "Gorime," he regularly produces content online. While he previously focused on creating English-language content for Japanese audiences, with Gems of Japan, he aims to showcase Japan's appeal with his characteristically "more American than American" enthusiasm.

He candidly admits that his understanding of Japanese history and traditions was limited, often learning new things through his children's exam preparation. However, he believes this perspective allows him to relate better to foreign audiences who cannot visit Japan, combining his unique position as a Japanese person with an outsider's viewpoint to create engaging English content for international audiences.
